Contemporary Artist Research: Nick Cave

Nick Cave is a Chicago artist who is known for Sound Suits. He came up with this idea while reflecting on the LA Riots in the 90s. He was in a park and found some twigs, creating his first sculpture/wearable/costume completely of twigs. The creation made sound when worn, which is Sound Suits' namesake. The series of Sound Suits are also about becoming something new when worn--the wearer/dancer feels conviction in how they should move or operate while wearing a Sound Suit. Cave says he rarely sketches and is rather inspired by a specific object. He also uses a lot of unwanted or found objects for his pieces.
